Language: Arabic
Jane Eyre translation: 2017
Yousif Ata Al-Tarifi is a prolific author who has written extensively on classical as well as contemporary topics ranging from classical Arabic literature and grammar to modernist Arab literary figures, including the lives and writings of Jibran Khalil Jibran (Lebanon), Ibrahim Touqan (Palestine), Abu Al-Qasim Al-Shaabi (Egypt/Tunisia), Ahmad Shawqi (Egypt), Badr Shakir Al-Sayaab (Iraq), and Nazik Al-Malaa’eka (Iraq). There is limited information about his education (although it seems likely he completed Arabic studies).
Some of Al-Tarifi’s translations beyond Jane Eyre include Christ Recrucified by Nikos Kazantzakis (2017), Metamorphosis, and The Trial and Letter to His Father by Kafka. I am of the opinion that Al-Tarifi has only translated texts from English, including the works of Kazantzakis and Kafka.
