This Jane Eyre translation workshop is an opportunity to explore the creative side of translation. During the workshop, participants will discuss what translation means to them, they’ll explore different types of translation, think about the decisions translators have to make, and they will have a go at translating an excerpt (fire at Thornfield) from Gabriela Jaworska’s Polish translation of Jane Eyre. No prior knowledge of the novel required. Below you will find a PowerPoint and a worksheet for a creative translation workshop into Polish.

We also provide a second worksheet designed for independent study. Creative translation is a decision making process. By completing this independent task, the students will become familiar with two approaches to translation and will have an opportunity to consider their target audience when making (sometimes difficult) translation choices.
