Jane Eyre translation: 1963
A poet and translator born in Smyrna, Asia Minor, in 1904. After completing her secondary schooling in Smyrna, she moved to Athens. As a journalist she worked with many magazines of the time under the aliases ‘Zoe’ and ‘Louise’. Her poem ‘Lament’ was set to music by the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and included in the album ‘Songs of the Match’. She translated more than forty literary works, including books by Cervantes, Victor Hugo, Karl Marx, and Honore de Balzac. She died in Athens in 1998.
